#SugarFreeSeptember: 30 days of sugar-free recipes

Sugar-Free Chocolate Chunks Recipe - Isabelle McKenzie

A super easy to make 3 ingredient, sugar free, keto, low carb, and vegan chocolate chunks recipe, with no toxic sweeteners - perfect for sprinkling over cereal, yogurt, ‘nice’ cream, or chocolate chunk overnight oatmeal!

Can chocolate chunks be a superfood? Heck yeah! Hip, hip, hooray, let’s P-A-R-T-A-Y!

Who doesn’t love to grab a little handful of chocolate while baking, or to sprinkle on top of a bowl of something tasty? Unfortunately, it’s not a good habit to have when you’re working on building a sugar balanced lifestyle, so I gave it up for a long while.

I didn’t really mind too much, as I really enjoy my vibrant balanced lifestyle, but I started up this fun little habit again a little while ago. Huh?

Getting into sugar-free baking.

You see, I have a passion for baking, but I had to mostly give that up, except on my treat days or when I feel like I want to indulge days. This is because all of my family and friends chose to join me in a healthy balanced lifestyle, so I couldn't bake them up a storm regularly either.

And then I discovered sugarless baking (or sugar-free baking), so I’m back to regular baking and snacking on chocolate chips yet again.

But, the chocolate I now snack on is homemade and a super-food… and I'm not exaggerating.

My journey with sugar-free chocolate chips and chunks.

When I first started no-sugar baking I would use only Lily’s no-sugar chocolate chips for everything from no sugar added cookies, to topping my overnight oats, but I don’t completely do that anymore.

A couple of weeks ago I was preparing myself a bowl of yogurt and strawberries for lunch, and when I went to top it with Lily’s no-sugar chocolate chips, I found I had run completely out of them.

I’d forgot to pick them up at the store on Friday - it was a real bummer as I really wanted some chocolate.

So, I thought to myself, there’s got to be a way I can have some sugar free chocolate chunks that are homemade and healthy with what I had on hand.

Boom! I realised that combining coconut oil, cocoa and my Stevia drops and chilling it could very well work.

That’s exactly what I did - I put my lunch on hold, and whipped up something that looked more like a runny chocolate sauce, poured it into a baking dish, chilled it, and waited to see what would happen.

20 minutes later I got the sugar-free chocolate block out of the freezer and chopped it up, hesitantly tried a bite, and wow… how rich and chocolaty it tasted! It’s now officially my go-to chocolate topper.

They work well as either sugar-free chocolate chunks, or, if you use a mould, chocolate chips.

So, my recipe for day 7 of sugar free September (I’m sharing sugar-free recipe versions of your favorite foods, while also eating no-sugar myself the whole month) are my super rich sugar-free chocolate chunks!

Now, keep in mind that these chocolate chunks can’t be used for baking.

The oil melts way to quickly in the oven (believe me, I’d tried), but you can use these chocolatey morsels to top whatever you would like, or as a sweet snack.

These sugar-free chocolate chunks, are scrumptious and melt divinely in your mouth, and have a dark seriously chocolaty, rich, creamy flavor. Perfect for crushing any quick little chocolate craving, without all the bad!

Oh, and did I mention they’re low carb, keto, and diabetes friendly?

I’m mean, these no-sugar chips/chunks are really, really healthy, and if you’re one of those people who knows that they need their healthy fatty acids and other health benefits from coconut oil, but don’t like the taste of the oil, then this recipe is for you.

I have never liked the taste of coconut oil, but have forced myself to eat it for years. With this sugar-free chocolate recipe though, I enjoy my daily coconut oil in my daily sweets fix! So cool right?

To underscore the some of the benefits here:

Coconut Oil can increase fat burning, kill harmful microorganisms, reduce hunger, boost good cholesterol and is good for blood sugar and diabetes.

Plus, let’s no forget how healthy the unsweetened cocoa powder in the recipe is too; cocoa boosts energy, contains antioxidant properties and minerals, lowers blood pressure, has a great effect on cholesterol, and enhances cardiovascular health.
